Apply early! Applications received after February 14 have a $25 fee.
Please follow all instructions carefully and complete all sections. As part of the selection process, we may request a phone conversation with you. Applicants may not apply to study more than one language.
Please remember that this is an immersion program and as a participant you will sign an agreement to communicate in only your language of study during the entire eight-week session. Beginning students will use a modified language protocol during the first weeks of the program. Participants will live on site for the entire eight weeks of the program. Please discuss any conflicts with the APTLII Coordinator before you apply.
- Complete this application form, including your personal statement and contact information for your 2 references. You will not be able to save and return to the application, so be prepared to fill it out completely in one sitting. Write your personal statement in a separate program ahead of time and cut-and-paste it into this form.
- Download the Recommendation Form and give a copy to both of your references, asking them to submit their letters of recommendation and language evaluation forms to us directly.
- Send APTLII one transcript from each institution of higher education you have attended, scanned/electronic versions are welcome in lieu of paper copies.
- If you have any questions about the application process, please consult our Frequently Asked Questions page first. If you need additional help, contact Jenny Strugnell, APTLII Coordinator, at email@example.com or (608) 262-5666. All applications must be completed before May 5 in order to be considered.

Due to technical issues with our previous application form, there is now a Google Form that you can fill out to apply to APTLII.
For your convenience, we would like to offer you the chance to prepare your personal statement before beginning the remainder of the application. The prompt is as follows:
Please include an essay (approximately 500 words) describing your reasons for wanting to take part in the UW-Madison Arabic, Persian, and Turkish Language Immersion Institute. Be sure to include how you plan to meet the challenge of speaking only your target language for eight weeks and how you can personally contribute to the learning environment. In addressing the latter issue you may discuss your interpersonal skills, your leadership skills, your ability to adapt to new and unexpected situations, and/or your interest in creating an environment in which each participant feels valued, respected, and surrounded by supportive persons.
You will be able to copy and paste your personal statement from your preferred document to the application when you begin the application process.
