Dr. Asaad Alsaleh

Dr. Asaad Alsaleh is a Syrian American academic who was born and raised in Syria before moving to the United States in 2003. He received his BA and a graduate degree from Damascus University in Syria. He obtained his MA from Emporia State University in Kansas and his PhD from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He is professor of modern Arabic literature, comparative literature, and cultural studies at Indiana University’s Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures (MELC) in Bloomington. Alsaleh is author of Voices of the Arab Spring: Personal Stories of the Arab Spring (Columbia University, 2015) and Historical Dictionary of the Syrian Revolution and Civil War (Rowman & Littlefield, 2021), as well as many other publications on literature, culture, and the Middle East. He loves composing poetry and planting vegetables.
