Please upload your Personal Statement here. Please include in your statement (approximately 500 words) your personal, academic, and professional goals for wanting to take part in UW-Madison's Arabic, Persian, and Turkish Language Institute (APTLI). Be sure to include how you plan to meet the challenge of an intensive language learning environment and how you can personally contribute to this learning environment. In addressing the latter issue, you may discuss your interpersonal skills, your leadership skills, your ability to adapt to new and unexpected situations, and/or your interest in creating an environment in which each participant feels valued, respected, and surrounded by supportive persons. Please also feel free to share with us any other relevant background info that could impact your time on the program.
You will be asked to submit two letters of recommendation with your APTLI application. One letter of recommendation should be from a past language instructor and include a language assessment form (linked on the APTLI website) in addition to a written statement. The other letter of recommendation should come from another instructor or professional. While we would like to receive input from an instructor who knows your past language learning experience (whether it be an APTLI target language or any other language), we understand that this scenario does not apply to all applicants. If you do not have a previous language instructor who can complete your letter of recommendation, you may submit a letter from a different instructor or a professional reference. Referees should send recommendations directly to aptli@lpo.wisc.edu
Required Accompanying Application Materials
It is your responsibility to ensure that all required accompanying application materials are submitted before the application deadline. Your application will not be reviewed until we have received all required materials. Transcripts can be uploaded here or submitted via email to aptli@lpo.wisc.edu. Applicants should request their referees to send their letters of recommendation directly to the APTLI office (aptli@lpo.wisc.edu). The $25 APTLI application fee must be submitted via the fee payment link on the APTLI website before your application will be considered complete. (It is our goal to make the program as affordable as possible. If the application fee or new student document fee are a hardship, please reach out to us at aptli@lpo.wisc.edu.)

APTLI complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). For more information about compliance, contact the McBurney Disability Resource Center, (608)263-2704. Disclosure of need for special accommodations is not required for this application.
